Artspace Warehouse: The “Axis of Contemporary Art” between Köln, Zürich and Los Angeles

with one comment

I love this place – but then again, I LOVE the Weisman Museum, and some tell me I’m crazy because of that… “Modern Art is just a bit of color on a canvas, a couple of paint specks, and there…” “I can do that”… yeah, right…

I thoroughly enjoyed browsing through this newest addition to the vibrant Euro-LA Gallery Scene, where young, upcoming Starving Artists from Germany and Switzerland are shown alongside Angeleno “Greats” – creating a cultural bridge and “Axis of Contemporary Art” between Köln, Zürich and Los Angeles.

There is Art for every pocketbook – that’s what I genuinely LOVE about this place. There’s room for the Elite Galleries, but Art lovers who don’t have gagillions to spend would really enjoy owning some cool stuff at a price where they don’t have to start another housing bubble to finance the thing hanging on their walls… right?

From Giacometti-Like wire statuettes, to artsy trinkets, to a series of amazing pop-art pieces the size of my whole living room – there’s something for every Taste and every Wallet. We may not be totally ready in this economy to splurge on Art yet, but the Artspace Warehouse makes it way more “Erschwinglich” (learn that word, Angelenos)… (affordable, yes… )

Check out some snapshots taken during a recent visit…

Congratulations to the creative entrepreneurial genius of Swiss Galerist Claudia Deutsch, President of the Beverly Hills Women’s Club and St.Gallen Alumni.

Claudia, YOU MADE(IT)IN.LA+!

ps: Get this… they just sold a GREAT piece to my FAVORITE Private Contemporary Art Museum… THE WEISMAN… Claudia – CONGRATULATIONS, You Made(ir)in.LA+!

Happy 20 Years in LA, Marlène & Happy 30th Birthday Raffael!

Marlène's got SWAG!

What an amazing evening (photos here) – a really nice crowd!

Who cares if @Roger Federer‘s in town for the Indian Wells event – we have a way better Gig here among THE BEST Young Creative Swiss in LA!

Photographers, artists, filmmakers, models, talent, young entrepreneurs, “biz” types, Swiss-American Chamber of Commerce & SwissCenterLA.org, SwissmixerLosAngeles.com and Cultural Attaché Christophe Vauthey, celebrating HFPA Member @Marlène von Arx‘ 20th Anniversary of living in LA LA Land, and Star Photographer @Raffael Dickreuter‘s 30th Birthday in a way only Springtime LA can offer…

All this with a hint of dramatic, almost-staged “Marine Layer” (Lesson #1 in “LA-speak” for Swiss newcomers: don’t ever call this “Fog” – that’s in San Francisco! ;))

Thank You for a wonderful evening, guys and gals!
See you soon! (At this Week’s Dinner & Movie at the Chalet Edelweiss, perhaps?)

Check Events.LA+ for more info on upcoming happenings of Swiss Interest in Los Angeles.

Fausto and Alexandra

Our fellow Angeleno-Swiss Fausto Zaina is returning back to Switzerland to pursue a mega-opportunity in the same field, with another important tourism organization promoting Switzerland’s Railroads. What a great career move, Fausto – Congratulations!

Lisa, Fausto & Linda

Thank you for your tireless work on behalf of Switzerland here in LA – and as the function of Board Member at the Swiss-American Chamber of Commerce/LA: Chairman Roger Wacker couldn’t have said it better during “your” Oscars-going-away-reception last week: you are AMAZING! And that’s why you deserved an AWARD!

Let’s hope your travels take you back to the “Best Coast” soon! – and you can bet we’ll come bug you at your new digs near Zürich’s Hauptbahnhof!

You will forever be an “Honorary Angeleno-Swiss“, in good company alongside many illustrious previous honorees!

Ciao Fausto, Buon Viaggio e Arrivederci a presto!

Dear friends

After four intense and exciting years in the City of Angels time has come to move on to new challenges for me.

Thank you for your collaboration, thank you for writing and talking about Switzerland, thank you for filming in Switzerland, thank you for promoting and selling Switzerland and sometimes even dreaming about Switzerland. Simply thank you for putting Switzerland on the map. I’m grateful having had the opportunity to work with you. It has been a huge pleasure. I will miss you.

I’m proud to announce my successor, Alexandra Imhof who is based at the moment in our Paris office. She will take over the position of District Manager Western US as from April 4 2011.

At the same time it’s a pleasure to inform that our paths might cross again. As from April 4 2011 I’ll be working for Swiss Travel System AG, a sister company of Swiss Federal Railway and Switzerland Tourism, based in Zurich.

In my new capacity, as Market Manager America, Asia & Australia, I’ll be responsible for sales & marketing of Swiss Rail and therefore be regularly in the US as well.

I wish you best health, great business and that your dreams come true.
See you again on a Swiss train.

Swiss Rail Greetings, Fausto
