This talented young singer/songwriter from the Italian part of Switzerland (Ticino) studied Music in Milan, Italy and Music Business at the Musicians Institute in Hollywood – surely a good choice on getting the necessary tools on how to make it in the US. PHOTO EXHIBIT at the Consulate General of Switzerland Los Angeles
March 1 – 31, 2011 – Weekdays, 9am-12noon during official lobby hours.
In February, famous wildlife photographer Daisy Gilardini had the honor to give a lecture at the Annenberg Space for Photography in Los Angeles. At the same occasion she talked at the Santa Monica Public Library about her expeditions to the Polar Regions. Other participants at this event, which was part of the program ThinkSwiss-Brainstorm the future, included Swiss researcher Konrad “Koni” Steffen from the University of Colorado and filmmaker and photographer Corina Gamma.
The Consulate General [of Switzerland] in Los Angeles is proud to announce an exhibition of a series of photographs of Daisy Gilardini in the lobby of the Consulate in West Los Angeles under the title Polar Wonders – Photographs from the ends of the world.
Daisy Gilardini is based in Lugano in the Canton of Ticino, the sunshine state of Switzerland. She started taking photography seriously during her first trip to India in 1989 and since then has visited more than 65 countries with camera in hand. After falling in love with Antarctica during her first trip there in 1997, she has spent most of her time photographing the Polar Regions. In more than a decade of polar explorations she joined thirteen expeditions to Antarctica and twenty-three to the Arctic, most of them on research vessels and icebreakers, one on a sailing boat, some overland and in 2006 she joined a Russian expedition to the North Pole on skies.
Daisy’s images have been published internationally by leading magazines and organizations, such as National Geographic, Smithsonian, BBC Wildlife, Nature’s Best, Audubon, The Telegraph, Outdoor Photography, Greenpeace, World Wildlife Fund, among many others.
Her work has received awards at the most prestigious international photo contests such as the “IPA International Photography Award”, “BBC Wildlife photographer of the year”, “Photography Master Award”, “Travel Photography of the Year” and “Nature’s Best”. In April 2010 Daisy had the great honor to be part of the jury of the “BBC Wildlife Photographer of the Year” considered as the “Oscars” of nature photography photo contests. For her dedication to environmental issues, in fall 2009, Daisy was accepted as a member of the Emerging League of ILCP, the International League of Conservation Photographers.
Her book POLAR WONDERS will be available for $ 65. – at the exhibition.
Take the opportunity to see her work exhibited in the Lobby of the Consulate General of Switzerland weekdays between 9 am and 12 noon.
